Welcome to Terroir Wine Group
Beckons...Your Tasteful Journey.
Terroir Wine Group is a producer and importer of high quality wines, not a distributor. Our mission is simple. We are passionate, dedicated (somewhat obsessed) people, who produce and import wines of substantial quality and value while striving to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Currently you can find our wines in New York, Washington DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Texas. Go to our Store Locator to find a restaurant or retailer near you that offers our wines and our distributor lineup.
We invite you to taste the passion of Terroir. Go on a journey with us to lands foreign and domestic and send your palate to places it will want to visit again and again.
Terroir Wine Group was founded by wine industry veteran Paul Clear.
Clear got his start in the wine business in 1994, working at one of the top Wine and Liquor stores in the USA, Premier Liquor in Buffalo, NY. Starting as a stock boy at the ripe age of 18, Clear quickly became curious about wine. This tends to happen when you’re surrounded by 10,000 wines and millions of dollars in inventory. Clear worked his way up the ladder at Premier, raising his status to Senior wine consultant in just 3 years.
In 1998, Clear left Premier and moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue his political interests working for the Human Rights Campaign for nearly a year. Working 24 hours a day for little money convinced Clear to move back to Buffalo where he landed at Georgetown Square Wine and Liquor as Wine Manager. Georgetown quickly went from neighborhood liquor store to the 17,000 square foot wine power it is today, a major player in Western New York.
After various sales-rep positions with Mullen & Gunn, Lauber Imports and Martin-Scott, Clear moved south to the warm confines of Florida.
After working over a year running the state for Zyr Vodka, Clear got back into the wine business working with famed wine consultant Michel Rolland at Virginia’s Kluge Estate where Clear was in charge of sales for the Southeast US.
Then one day, while sitting in a famous coffee chain, Clear mentioned the idea of producing and importing quality wines from around the world and starting a company that gives back to the environment and the Terroir.
Clear hopped a plane to Madrid and started knocking on winery doors, pitching his idea of producing a brand for the US market. 3 Trips and over 125 wineries later, he found the place.
In 2010, the first wine landed on the shores of New York to critical acclaim and awards. Now their wines are gaining national distribution and growing Terroir into a player on the International Wine Scene.
In spring 2011, Terroir began importing Lobetia- a line of organically grown and biodynamic wines from Central Spain. Owning the import company as well as the brands, allows Clear to offer incredible wines at tremendous values.
